Why we go on Treks
From 1856 to 1860, about 3,000 Latter-day Saints pulled handcarts across the American plains to gather in the Salt Lake Valley. These pioneers trekked more than a thousand miles through heat and cold; through mud, sand, and sometimes snow; and through rivers and over mountains. They faced trials that required great faith and perseverance.
Our stake pioneer trek is an opportunity for the youth of our stake to learn in a small measure from the experiences of the handcart pioneers. It provides a powerful opportunity to strengthen testimonies, build unity, do family history, and learn core gospel principles. Treks can also help youth learn about who they are and what they may become, while at the same time, helping them come learn about their pioneer heritage, and the importance of their role in the Gathering of Israel on both sides of the veil.
2022 Trek Goals
- Strengthen youth testimonies of gospel principles
- Help youth become more acquainted with the Lord
- Strengthen personal commitment to families & family history
- Strengthen appreciation for ancestors and the sacrifices made to build temples
Trek Theme
The theme for the 2022 Ephraim Stake Trek is:
Trek Home To Eternity
Isaiah 2:2-3
2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.
3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
